Bon Dance Festival

Location : Dream Flower Night Market (across the river from the Old Market)
Date: November 6, starts at 5:00 PM

Bon is similar to Pchum Ben in Cambodia.
Angkor Japanese Association (AJA) has been organizing this Bon festival since 2008.
Please come and join us, all you can dance :)

Bon is one of the most important Japanese traditions. People believe that their ancestors' spirits come back to their homes to be reunited with their family during Bon and pray for the spirits. For this reason, Bon is an important family gathering time, and many people return to their hometowns.

Bon dance (folk dance) is widely practiced on Bon nights. Styles of dance vary from area to area, but usually Japanese Taiko drums keep the rhythms. Bon dances are held at parks, gardens, shrines or temples, wearing Yukata (summer Kimono) and dance around a Yagura stage. Anyone can participate in Bon dance, so join the circle and imitate what others are doing.

The event has food, drink and game stands. Japanese traditional Taiko drums team will come from Phnom Penh.
And also some groups will show special performance during the festival. The admission fee is Cambodian 1dollar, and foreigner 5dollars.

Angkor Japanese Association (AJA) was established in 2008. AJA was a gathering place for Japanese who lived in Siem Reap and took care of member's welfare, their children's education. At present we have about 100 Members.
